Nearly 4,000 people have died in Jamaica of COVID-19 since the virus surfaced.
Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, gave the update at last week’s meeting of the Standing Finance Committee of Parliament.
One of the worst health crises faced in decades, COVID-19 saw more than 7 million people killed globally, with over 700 million confirmed cases since its outbreak.
The virus also proved to be one of the greatest global economic disasters since the Great Depression of the 1930s.
According to the Health Minister, the country also lost more than 50 healthcare workers who were on the front lines during the height of the pandemic.
Dr. Tufton says these workers must be honoured for their sacrifice.
