The Easter session of the St. Catherine Circuit court begun today with 349 cases listed for trial.

However, 270 of these cases have been brought forward from the last session.

79 new cases have been added to the list.

The list includes 44 murder trials, 92 rape cases, 11 buggery cases and 8 carnal abuse matters.

The court is also to hear 63 cases involving people accused of having sex with a girl under 16 years and 14 cases of incest.

Justice David Fraser lamented that there were too many sex offenses and murder cases.

He also called for additional court staff and measures to prevent violent cases from reaching the court.

Justice Fraser also called for case management to reduce the length of trials.
