The Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard is warning fisher-folk occupying the Pedro Cays to evacuate and proceed to the mainland as soon as possible.

In a statement to the media last evening, the JDF Coast Guard says it’s on high alert, as Hurricane Isaac continues its approach towards the Eastern Caribbean.

The Coast Guard also says it will be evacuating its personnel from Station Pedro Cays.

The JDF Coast Guard says it has sent one of its Offshore Patrol Vessels to the banks to assist persons on the Pedro Banks. It says that’s to arrive this morning.

The JDF Coast Guard says the approaching hurricane will make it extremely unlikely that another trip will be possible.

Commanding Officer of the JDF Coast Guard, Lieutenant Commander Aceion Precott, says he’s urging persons on the banks to heed these warnings as he says the weather systems can strengthen suddenly and become even deadlier and more unpredictable overnight.
