Nationwide News understands that the Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator Sandrea Falconer, came under fire during last Sunday’s meeting of the governing PNP’s National Executive Council, NEC.
The NEC is the second highest decision making body in the PNP.
Our sources say the Councilor for the Papine Division, Venesha Phillips raised concerns about Senator Falconer’s effectiveness as the de facto Information Minister.
Councilor Phillips told the NEC, that Senator Falconer’s performance has embarrassed the Government.
It’s understood that she requested that the NEC petition Prime Minister and PNP President, Portia Simpson Miller to relieve her of that portfolio.
It’s understood that Councillor Phillips’ comments were greeted by loud applause from NEC members.
Senator Falconer was present at the meeting.
Our sources say PNP Chairman, Robert Pickersgill, who was presiding over the meeting told Councillor Phillips that her concerns would be communicated to the Party President.
But he also noted that the appointment of Ministers is not in the purview of the NEC and its members. He said that’s entirely up to the Prime Minister.
When contacted this afternoon, Councilor Phillips declined to comment.
Calls placed to the mobile phones of Ministers Pickersgill and Falconer were not answered.
