Former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mark Shields, says he believes an FBI office in Jamaica is long overdue.
US Ambassador to Jamaica, Louis Moreno, this week announced the establishment of the office, which will also include the US Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms department, ATF.
Mr. Shields says the move is a good one.
Mr. Shields says the US Marshalls and Drug Enforcement Agency, DEA, already have a presence in Jamaica.
He says the new FBI and ATF office will have much to do.
He says the FBI’s main role will be sharing information and intelligence with local authorities.
