Twenty-eight wards of the state at the Clifton Boys Home in Darliston, Westmoreland have been temporarily transferred to a nearby church following a fire that destroyed their residence yesterday afternoon.
The boys raging between the ages of six and 20 were not hurt.
State Minister in the Ministry of Youth, Floyd Green says a team from the Child Development Agency’s (CDA) Western Region has been fully mobilized to co-ordinate suitable arrangements for them.
The CDA is currently conducting an assessment and is providing counseling to the boys.
They have also supplied hygiene kits, towels and sheets.
Mr. Green says the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management has also made a donation of mattresses.
He says the children are in need of clothes, school uniforms and books.
The Savanna-la-mar Fire Department which responded to the fire says it received the call at 4:53 yesterday afternoon.
Assistant Superintendent attached to the Westmoreland Fire Department, Anton Murry says the main building was completely destroyed by the fire.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The Police say investigations will be carried out today into the cause of the fire.
The 52 year-old home is managed by the Anglican Church.
