Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority, NSWMA, Audley Gordon, is raising concerns about a series of fires at the Myersville disposal site in St. Elizabeth.

In a statement yesterday, Mr. Gordon says the fires seem to be the deliberate work of arsonists.

He says last Friday workers noticed smoke emanating from the disposal site.

Upon investigation, the fire was reportedly seen coming from at least 11 different areas.

They were put out by the St. Elizabeth fire department.

Mr. Gordon says the NSWMA will convene a senior management meeting today to focus on the security of the country’s disposal sites.

He says special attention will be given to security arrangements as they consider how to prevent such incidents.
