The first pilot enrollment site, where citizens will be able to register for the new National Identification System will be completed in approximately two weeks.

That’s according to Minister Without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister, Floyd Green.

The minister toured the site located at the Central Sorting Office on South Camp Road in Kingston. The location will be the first of five sites that will be activated across Kingston and St. Andrew.

Minister Green says pilot registrations for the NIDS are expected before the end of this year.

The NIDS is expected to establish a reliable database of all Jamaicans and will involve the issuance of a unique lifelong National Identification Number to every person.

Minister Green says when Parliament resumes in September, the administration will table regulations governing the process.
