A five year old girl who was allegedly molested by her 29 year old brother is receiving support from the Child Protection and Family Services Agency,CPFSA.

Team Leader for CPFSA Westmoreland, Candice Williams, provided an update on the case which has outraged Jamaicans.

The accused was taken into police custody Tuesday evening during an operation in the Whithorn Police district in the parish.

The accused man’s actions were uncovered by his mother after she noticed something amiss with the child’s underwear.

The mother says upon asking her daughter, she was told her brother had touched her private area.

While tight lipped about the details, Ms. Williams says the child along with her two year old sister are safe.

Meanwhile, Executive Director of Children’s First, Claudette Richardson-Pious, says these acts of sexual assault are unfortunately not rare.

However, she commends the mother of the child for coming forward rather than attempting to cover it up.

Mrs. Richardson-Pious says far too often the culture makes it difficult to protect children from this type of sexual assault.
