The Firearm Licensing Authority, FLA, is advising licensed firearm holders, who will be attending the People’s National Party’s, PNP, Conference at the National Arena on Sunday, September 17, that they can take their weapons to its Old Hope Road headquarters in St. Andrew for safekeeping during the conference.
In a statement on Wednesday, the regulatory body advised that it will start accepting firearms at 8:00 am on Sunday and will remain open until the end of the conference.
The FLA says this initiative is aimed at helping prevent negligent loss or theft of firearms and ammunition.
It is warning all licensed firearm holders that they must take the necessary steps to ensure that their firearms are secured while attending the conference.
The FLA is further warning licensed firearm holders that no facility for the storage of firearms will be provided at the National Arena.
It’s warning legal gun owners that if they leave their weapon in a motor vehicle or any unauthorised place, the licence for that and all other firearms will be revoked.
It says licensed firearm holders are being reminded that it is their duty under the Firearm (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) Act 2022 to safely store their firearms and ammunition.
The regulatory body says where a person fails to do so and such action causes the firearm to be lost or stolen, that person is liable upon conviction to a term of imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to $5,000,000.
