The Gender Advisory Council, is advocating for a policy which ensures that once domestic violence cases are reported they are pursued fully in the court system.

Sharon Robinson is Senior Director of the Bureau of Gender Affairs, which is the Secretariat for the Gender Advisory Council.

She says the Domestic Violence Act is being reviewed.

She says the Council has been working to develop other policies aimed at protecting women from abuse and, she says there are several men on the Council who have great ideas.

Mrs Robinson says eliminating gender-based violence will take time.

But, she says the effort must get underway.

The elimination of gender-based violence forms part of the mandate of the Gender Advisory Council, chaired by Gender Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange.

The Advisory Council is also participating in a series of activities in commemoration of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
