One of the country’s leading data privacy specialists, Trevor Forrest, says he isn’t surprised by allegations that the Government of Jamaica may be monitoring private online communications of citizens.

Mr. Forrest says the capabilities to eavesdrop exist in the country.

But says it would require the partnership of the country’s telecommunication networks, FLOW and Digicel.

He says an operation of this magnitude would fall under the jurisdiction of the both the Ministry of National Security and the Ministry of Defense.
