The Ministries of Finance and Labour are deliberating on the ruling of the Industrial Disputes Tribunal, IDT, in the overtime claims disagreement between the government and the Jamaica Medical Doctors’ Association, JMDA.

That’s according to health and wellness minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton.

The IDT issued its long-awaited ruling on Monday. It ordered that the doctors be paid under their own emergency duty formula, backdated to April 1, 2023.

The IDT also ordered the reinstatement of the incentive allowance, paid to over 700 doctors, who are not assigned for emergency duty.

That too is backdated to April 2023.

The award binds the Ministries of Health and Finance, the four regional health authorities, the University Hospital of the West Indies, Bellevue Hospital and the Ministry of National Security.
