The Government is officially rolling out its 10 thousand dollar incentive programme for elderly persons 60 years of age and older to get fully vaccinated.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke says applications will launch through the already existing WECARE website on the fifteenth of July.

The programme was announced as part of Dr. Clarke’s budget presentation earlier this year.

Previously it was aimed at those 60 and over who earned below 1-point-5 million dollars annually.

However, Dr. Clarke says this requirement has been scrapped and opened to everyone within the age range.

Dr. Clarke says despite hundreds of thousands of Jamaicans falling within this category, only 7 thousand have been fully vaccinated or 2 per cent of the target demographic.

The Finance Minister noting the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic and the virus’ particular lethality for the elderly says it’s critical to get this group vaccinated.
