Preliminary data from the Jamaica Constabulary shows that gun seizures, arrests and arrests with evidence are down in 2018 when compared to 2017.

According to the preliminary report, 720 guns were removed from the streets last year. Of that number, there were 507 pistols and 54 rifles. But the total seizures declined by 16-percent when compared to 2017.

In addition 76 guns were reported stolen in 2018. And in 2018, 13,406 arrests were made. That’s a 6 percent decline over 14,258 arrests made in 2017.

There were 3,281 arrests with evidence in 2018. That’s a decline of almost 18 percent over 2017.
