Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Morais Guy, is cautioning the government against diluting the impact of certain programmes through their integration of key agencies into the central ministry.

While supporting the consolidation in principle, he warns that this could have unintended effects.

On Friday, the Senate passed legislation to integrate the National Family Planning Board and the National Council on Drug Abuse into the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

The integration is part of the government’s thrust to rationalise public bodies under the Public Sector Transformation Programme.

However, responding in the House of Representatives, health minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, assured the Opposition Spokesman that the efficacy of these programmes would not be reduced.
