In Guyana, the President, Dr. Irfaan Ali, suffered a setback today, after a High Court Judge ruled that his decision in 2021 to suspend the members of the Police Service Commission, PSC, was unlawful, ultra vires and of no legal effect.
That ruling was handed down earlier on Friday by Justice Gino Persaud.
Justice Persaud ruled that in order to sack the PSC, President Ali was bound by the constitution to first consult the Judicial Services Commission, JSC.
He said the fact that the JSC did not exist at the time the PSC members were sacked in 2021, was a burden for President Ali to bear.
