The head of the Hanover Community Safety and Security Branch, Deputy Superintendent, Sharon Beeput, says the police in the parish will not retreat in the fight against crime.
This as the number of murders in the usually quiet parish has been mounting in recent weeks.
Data from the police statistics unit show that 24 murders were committed in the parish during the first half of this year, compared to 19 last year.
DSP Beeput says the police and law abiding residents must unite in the fight against criminals.
The community of Green Island is posing a serious challenge for the police.
Between January and June this year, nine murders were committed there, including the shooting death of a man — a mere 40 feet away from the gates of the Green Island Police Station.
DSP Beeput says the police are conducting more patrols in several trouble spots in the parish.
