Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, says the National School Nutrition Policy is long overdue in Jamaica.
The National School Nutrition Policy was approved as a green paper and tabled in Parliament in May this year.
It’s used to guide the provision of good nutrition and healthy living for the most vulnerable students in society.
Dr. Tufton was speaking yesterday at the National School Nutrition Policy Green Paper Consultation Session.
The Health Minister acknowledged that there will be challenges removing sugary products from the system including the cost.
However, he says those issues will be addressed.
Dr. Tufton noted that companies who refuse to reformulate their sugary drinks should not be included in the school system.
