The Ministry of Health and Wellness is urging Jamaicans to remain vigilant as Covid-19 is once again on the rise.
In a release on Thursday, the ministry says the high transmission is based on surveillance data among the population.
The ministry says in July, the country recorded 176 Covid-19 cases. That’s a 16 per cent increase from the 152 reported in June.
According to the ministry, case distribution shows Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine and St. James with the highest figures.
It says 25 per cent of the recorded cases were from the corporate area, while St. Catherine and St. James each had 18 per cent.
Thirteen Covid-19 deaths have also been reported since the start of the year.
The ministry says it continues to recommend vaccination as the best defence against severe Covid-19 illness and death. It says doses of the Pfizer vaccine are available.
Members of the public are being urged to remain at home if feeling sick. The ministry also advises that people wear masks in public if they are experiencing symptoms.
Jamaicans travelling abroad are also especially urged to take the necessary precautions.
