Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says the government is focused on up-skilling workers in the sector to fuel further economic growth.

The minister says the post-Covid-19 era requires a robust framework to facilitate the improvements in human capital to address key labour market challenges.

Minister Bartlett says the recently established Tourism Labour Market Committee, was restructured in order to address several COVID related issues within the sector and guide its full restoration.

He says the committee will aid in responding to new labour market trends.

The minister says while tourism enjoys one of the highest employment figures for the economy, many of the jobs fall in the low skill category.

He says the government is committed to ensuring Jamaicans engaged in the sector, have opportunities for economic mobility.
