The Jamaica Labour Party nominated Duane Smith as its candidate in the November 22 by-election. He will be going up against Rohan Banks and Carl O’Neal Marshall, who are contesting the race as independent candidates.

Both Banks and Marshall previously represented the People’s National Party.

In 2020, Banks challenged Dr. Nigel Clarke for the seat, while Carl Marshall served as Speaker of the House from 1993 to 1997 during PJ Patterson’s first term as prime minister.
