The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, JHTA, is calling for the JAMCOVID-19 Application site to be scrapped.

The site is used for persons who wish to travel to upload their travel information as well as their Covid-19 test results.

However, JHTA President, Clifton Reader, says the application website has outlived its usefulness and needs to be overhauled altogether.

In a statement, Mr. Reader says JAMCOVID-19 was introduced at a time when the nation’s borders were just opening up after months of lockdown due to the pandemic.

He says the site was very useful in helping the government to process persons coming into the island while the Health Ministry of Health worked to control the spread of the disease.

But Mr. Reader noted that the country is now past that point.

The JHTA President says with borders opening up all over the world, tourism destinations, are moving to simplify their entry procedures.

He says Jamaica will be left behind if the practice is not followed.

The statement went on to say that proof of vaccination or a negative antigen or PCR test taken within 48 hours of travel should be good enough for Jamaica.

Mr. Reader says JAMCOVID-19, in its present format, is adding another unnecessary layer of bureaucracy and frustration as persons wait impatiently for travel authorization to come to the country.

He says a new regime is needed that is welcoming, stress free, simple and easy to navigate by nationals and visitors alike.
