The House of Representatives has approved an extension to the States of Public Emergency in sections of Kingston, up to July 25.

Contributing to the debate last evening, Opposition MP, Peter Bunting, criticised the Holness Administration’s continued use of States of Public Emergency, saying they’re not in keeping with liberal democracy.

He says despite the claim of the continued successes of the enhanced security measures, the government has resorted to hiding key statistics.

However, Prime Minister Holness, rejected Mr. Bunting’s notion of authoritarian behaviour, calling the suggestion offensive.

The Prime Minister says his use of the emergency powers remains in keeping with the democratic process.
