King’s Counsel Hugh Small is calling on the government to abide by its obligations under international law when dealing with Haitian migrants who flee to Jamaica.

He was reacting to news that the Jamaican government swiftly sent back a group of 36 Haitians, who landed in Portland on Sunday.

Hugh Small is also a member of the human rights lobby group Freedom Imaginaries.

The government says following the completion of immigration checks and security vetting, the group of migrants was denied entry to Jamaica.

Some members of the group had previously entered Jamaica illegally.

But Mr. Small is questioning the morality of sending the migrants back.
