The bill to allow for the impeachment of parliamentarians was today advanced in the House of Representatives as Opposition Leader, Mark Golding, moved to have it read a first time.

Mr. Golding had introduced the bill arising from the physical assault controversy swirling around embattled MP for Central Westmoreland, George Wright.

The incident was caught on video which went viral.

MP Wright has not been charged and to date has not confirmed or denied if he is the man in the viral video.

He is currently on a two month leave of absence from the Parliament.

The impeachment legislative push has taken on added significance since embattled MP for Central Westmoreland, George Wright, became embroiled in a physical assault scandal.

More than 30 civil society, gender rights, private sector and church organizations have called on Wright to resign from the House.

Golding’s PNP has also called for Wright’s resignation.
