The Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM has released the identity of an inmate who reportedly died after suffering injuries sustained at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre.

The deceased, who’s identity was being withheld pending the notification of his relatives, is Darren Brown.

Brown reportedly died after an incident ensued between himself and a Correctional Officer.

Sources from inside the facility allege the incident began after the inmate went to get a bottle of water.

According to INDECOM, an altercation between the inmate and the Correctional Officers resulted in Brown being struck with a regulation baton.

Brown subsequently fell and was taken to the Medical Area of the facility.

Brown was reportedly later taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident has angered the inmates, many of whom participated in a hunger strike today at the facility.

Meanwhile, when our news centre contacted INDECOM yesterday, Assistant Commissioner, Hamish Campbell says the inmates death is still under investigation.
