Opposition Spokesperson for Health and Healthy-lifestyle, Senator Marlene Malahoo Forte, is expressing shock and outrage at a decision by the Ministry of Health to investigate its management of the chikungunya epidemic.
This, as the Ministry announced last week, that it’d partnered with researchers regionally and nationally to determine the effect chik-v had on the population.
According to the Ministry — several cases were not reported to its Surveillance Unit — hence the gap between the official figures and the unconfirmed reports.
But Senator Forte says, at a time when the country is calling for credible information instead of cover-up, there’s need for an independent, credible and wide-ranging research, which also audits the Ministry.
