Nationwide News understands that several inmates were hurt Monday morning following a motor vehicle crash which allegedly happened when two vehicles transporting prisoners overtook each other several times.

Alleged eyewitnesses say the drivers of the vehicles appeared to be racing when the crash occurred on Maxfield Avenue.

Among the inmates who sustained injuries is Lanchester Coke. Coke received injuries to his neck, legs and back.

Lanchester is a brother of former Tivoli Gardens don, Christopher Dudus Coke. Sources say several other inmates were injured and taken to the hospital.

The accident reportedly occurred when some inmates were being transported from a lockup in the Corporate Area to the Horizon Remand Center. The crash happened at approximately 10:00 Monday morning.

Several people close to some of the inmates injured have accused the Police personnel involved of attempting to cover up the incident.

Up to news time there was no comment from the Constabulary about the incident.

Calls placed shortly before news time to Head of the Constabulary’s Corporate Communications Unit, Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, Dahlia Garrick, were not answered.
