Acting President of the Jamaican Islamic Council Al Hajj Mekaeel Maknoon is demanding information and explanations over the case of the teenage boy who was held over fears that he was travelling from Jamaica to join ISIS.

Mr. Maknoon says a full explanation is needed as the actions of the police tainted both the boy’s image and Islam itself.

The teenager was released from custody after the police said they could not prove that he was providing material support to the terrorist group.

In a statement following the boy’s release, the police said their interest was initially triggered by a number of peculiarities concerning the travel arrangements of the teenager.

Including the fact that: he was a first time traveller, travelling unaccompanied on a trip that would require several international connections and using a route that’s under international scrutiny as a known path for persons travelling to join ISIS.
