Member of Parliament for South St. Catherine, Fitz Jackson, is concerned that the government has so far failed to utilize $3.3-billion which it had allocated in the current fiscal year.
Mr. Jackson says this shows the government must better plan its programmes.
Mr. Jackson was speaking this morning at a sitting of Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee, PAAC,
The PAAC is reviewing the Second Supplementary Estimates of Expenditures. Mr. Jackson is urging the government not to put items in the Estimates if sufficient planning isn’t done to ensure the funding will be utilized.
In response, Financial Secretary, Darlene Morrison, says the problem arose from bad timing. But, she says the funds will be utilized and will not affect the country’s 7-per cent primary surplus target.
