The Jamaican government has received its best ever credit rating from internationally acclaimed financial service company, Standard & Poor’s.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke informed the nation that Jamaica now enjoys a BB- rating up from B+.

The US based Standard & Poor’s, informally known as S&P, is one of the worlds leading credit ratings agencies.

The BB- is just one step shy of what is known as investment grade which opens the country to significant international capital upon which to pull from.

Dr. Clarke says Jamaica can use the new rating as a means to attract further investment.

The finance minister declared the rating improvement a victory for the country which has worked over the years to attain fiscal stability.
