President of the Nurses Association of Jamaica, NAJ, Janet Farr, says she does not believe Jamaica’s health sector is adequately prepared for an outbreak of the mosquito borne Zika virus.

Her comments follow developments which suggest that it’s only a matter of time before the fist case of the virus is confirmed in Jamaica.

Speaking on Nationwide This Morning, Mrs. Farr says Jamaica lacks the capacity to test samples locally for the Zika virus.

Nurse Farr says while the Health Ministry has done some work to date, the country’s preparedness for the arrival of Zika needs to be enhanced.
