The country has recorded its highest number of Covid-19 cases since the start of the fifth wave.

In the last 24 hours, 3 93 new cases were reported. That’s according to the health and wellness ministry’s latest update.

The new cases come from the testing of 3,159 samples. A positivity rate of 28.8 per cent was recorded.

Majority of the new cases are from St Catherine with 88 confirmed while Kingston and St Andrew follows with 78.

Seven more deaths have also been recorded. More than 3,000 people in Jamaica have died from Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

There were 148 recoveries reported in the update.

The number of persons hospitalised with Covid have increased to 94. Nineteen are moderately ill, one is severely ill and two are considered critical. Seventy-five percent of those hospitalised are unvaccinated.
