It appears Jamaica has been spared the full wrath of the dangerous and powerful Category 4 Hurricane Matthew.

The Meteorological Center a short while ago downgraded the Hurricane Warning issued for the island to Tropical Storm warning.

This as Matthew continues to drift slowly away from Jamaica and towards Haiti.

However, citizens of Jamaica, especially those on the eastern end of the island are being strongly advised to continue to take precautions.

Head of the Forecasting Section of the Meteorological Center, Lawrence Brown spoke to our news center a few minutes ago.

But Hurricane Mathew is still a threat to Jamaica. That’s the word this afternoon from the Head of the Meteorological Service, Evan Thompson.

Mr. Thompson says Mathew continues to be a powerful hurricane.

He says the system could produce rain for more than 24 hours over the island which could mean significant devastation.
