Newly appointed Head of the Jamaica Defence Force, JDF, Chief of Defence Staff Major General, Rocky Meade, says the army plans to deploy a full battalion of soldiers to western Jamaica.
Major General Meade made the announcement yesterday afternoon shortly after he was sworn in by by Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen.
The JDF boss says the intention is to have an entire battalion of approximately 500 soldiers sent to Western Jamaica.
Meade did not give a timeline for the deployment which he noted is intended to support the Police.
Over 230 persons have been murdered in St. James since the start of the year.
