The Jamaica Defence Force, JDF, is reporting that a joint police-military operation, this weekend made a major drug bust, seizing six- hundred pounds of ganja with an estimated street value of $2.4 million, in Springfield, Westmoreland.

The JDF says, five men were arrested in connection to the drug seizure.

According to JDF, members of the Narcotics Division, the St. James Operations Support Unit and the military were conducting a predawn raid in Ketto district in the parish. The JDF notes that, during the operation, several premises and a motor car were searched.

They also reveal that two 9mm pistols, thirty-five 9mm cartridges and approximately six hundred pounds of cured ganja were also seized.

They also reported that some  five hundred ganga plants and an acre of illegal ganga were also destroyed. Meanwhile, the JDF says the five men who were held have not yet been charged and their identities are being withheld pending further investigations.
