Executive Director of Jamaicans for Justice, JFJ, Mickel Jackson, is calling on the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, JTA, to rethink its suggestion for the government to withhold PATH benefits from parents who do not regularly attend PTA meetings.

JTA President LaSonja Harrison made the suggestion at a recent conference in Trelawny.

Met with resounding applause, Harrison argued that only parents who attend at least three-quarters of annual PTA meetings should receive PATH benefits.

She says such a measure would strengthen parent-teacher relationships.

But Jackson says the circumstances preventing some parents from attending PTA meetings must be considered.
