Local gay rights group – Jamaica Forum of Lesbians, All-Sexuals and Gays (J-FLAG) – is accusing the Church of ‘whipping up moral panic’ in its quest to have the buggery law remain on the books.
Executive Director of J-FLAG, Dane Lewis, says he’s not surprised by the massive turnout in Half-Way Tree, St. Andrew yesterday, as various Church groups rallied their members and supporters to stand up against a repeal of the buggery law.
Mr. Lewis believes the Church misunderstands his organization’s objective.
He says he understands many persons are concerned about the protection of children from molestation.
He says J-FLAG also has those concerns. He maintains that the buggery laws should be reviewed
