The governing Jamaica Labour Party is expected to announce the date for local government elections today.
Last evening, JLP Chairman, Robert Montague, issued a brief statement advising of what’s described as a ‘Special Local Government Announcement’.
The statement says the announcement will be made between midday and 1:00 this afternoon at the Jamaica Conference Centre, in Downtown, Kingston.
Mr. Montague and Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Desmond McKenzie, will make an address.
Nationwide News reported on Tuesday that the Holness administration was set to announce the date of the parish council polls as early as this week.
The local government election is due by the end of December.
The country last had local government elections in March, 2012.
The governing JLP and the Opposition People’s National Party have already agreed to take part in two debates, before the local polls.
