The Ministry of Justice is set to expand the influence of Justices of the Peace, JPs, across Jamaica in an effort to reduce crime and violence.
Speaking at a JP commissioning ceremony in Portmore, St Catherine on Thursday, Justice Minister Delroy Chuck, said Cabinet has approved an annual subvention for JPs.
Minister Chuck says the subventions will go to JP associations across all parishes to help with programmes being coordinated by the justice ministry and other branches of government.
Minister Chuck says the efforts of the justice ministry are bearing fruit, with less people attempting to take the law into their own hands.
