The President and CEO of the light and power company, Jamaica Public Service, Kelly Tomblin, says it’s prepared for the possibility of an active hurricane season.

Miss Tomblin says JPS activated its emergency response mechanism yesterday and today as the strong tropical wave approached the island.

The system passed a few hundred miles off Jamaica’s south coast today and has now been upgraded to a tropical storm, Earl.
