The Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS, says 83 percent or just over 573,000 of its customers now have electricity.

JPS’ senior vice president of energy delivery, Blaine Jarrett, in a morning update just before news time says additional resources will be placed in St Elizabeth, one of the worst affected parishes.

JPS says it is projecting that most of its customers will be fully restored by Saturday, July 13 – except for those in St Elizabeth.

Jarrett explains that the electrical infrastructure in St Elizabeth was very badly damaged.

He says the company has already started restoration work, but it will take weeks before service is restored to all customers in the parish.

He says they’re intensifying efforts and redeploying resources to St Elizabeth to accelerate the pace of restoration.

JPS says about 300 workers – a combination of JPS employees and contractors – are being deployed throughout the parish to do restoration work.

Meanwhile, the company says it is working to have service restored in the following communities over the next 24-48 hours:
