President of the Jamaica Teacher’s Association, JTA, Norman Allen, says he endorses the Government’s move to increase the tax threshold of PAYE workers to $1-million.

The new threshold announced by the government last week is to take effect on the first of July this year.

It comes with a $14-billion tax package to include among other things an increase in the Special Consumption Tax, SCT, on Petrol by 7 dollars per litre.

Mr. Allen, while admitting the gas tax may have a negative impact on teachers, says he feels the imposition has been levied fairly.
