Amid public outrage, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has directed the Transformation Implementation Unit to remove the ‘Prime Minister’s’ compensation from the new salary scale.

The Prime Minister’s compensation will therefore remain at its previous levels.

Additionally, there will be no retroactive payments of the Prime Minister’s salary.

In a media briefing a short-while ago at the Office of the Prime Minister, PM Holness says he is charged with keeping the country together.

He says as leader of the country he has to show solidarity with the people, noting that Ministers don’t carry such a burden.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke, last week announced salary increases totaling $1.7 billion for members of the political directorate under the revised public-sector-compensation structure.
