Residents in some communities of Spanish Town, St Catherine have been fleeing their homes as gang violence erupts in sections of the Old Capital.

Member of Parliament for St. Catherine Eastern, Denise Daley says at least 10 families have left communities in Spanish Town since last month.

Ms. Daley is expressing concern with what has been happening in the community of Rivoli where two persons have been killed since the start of the week.

And…Ms. Daley says she’ll be meeting with the police and other stakeholders today to determine the authenticity of an audio clip being circulated in social media, warning of ‘war’ in Spanish Town over the Christmas season.

She says there’s a need for additional police presence in the town.

The MP is also calling for video surveillance especially near the bus terminus in Spanish Town.

Two persons were shot, one fatally, in the vicinity of the bus terminus this week.

Meanwhile, Nationwide News has learnt that reports that Klansman gang member Andre ‘Blackman’ Bryan has been detained by the police have been fueling fear of an outbreak of violence in Spanish Town.

Information reaching our news centre is that Blackman was detained and processed by the police but has since been released.

However it appears that residents are still of the view that he’s in police custody.
