LAFC are the 2022 MLS Cup Champions.

Two Reggae Boyz, captain Andre Blake and forward, Corey Burke were beaten finalists for the Philadelphia Union.

Ten-man LAFC beat the Union on penalties having drawn 3-3 at the end of extra time.

This is the LAFC’s first ever MLS Cup finals win in a match that ended in their home stadium.

Substitute keeper John McCarthy was the eventual hero with two saves in the penalty shoot-out.

The Union missed their other kick, meaning they failed to score in the shoot-out. Blake made one save in the 3-0 shoot-out loss.

LA FC opened the scoring in the 28th minute from Kellyn Acosta’s deflected free-kick. Daniel Gazdag levelled the score in the second half, collecting a wayward shot to score in the 58th.

Jesus Murillo gave the LA team the lead in the 83rd minute but Jack Elliot restored parity, sending the match to extra time.

LA FC’s keeper Maxime Crepeau was sent off in the 116th minute after he and Corey Burke collided just outside the box.

The keeper was dismissed for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity in an incident that saw both Crepeau and Burke leave the field injured.

Elliot was on hand again in the 124th minute to give the Union the lead, but LA FC, the MLS Supporter’s Shield winners, weren’t to be denied.

Welsh legend, Gareth Bale, on as a substitute, leapt highest in the 128th minute to steer a header past Blake in the Union goal to score the latest goal in MLS Cup history and eventually sending the game to penalties.
