Professor of Public Health, Epidemiology, and HIV and AIDS at the University of the West Indies, Professor Peter Figueroa says the country’s vaccination strategy needs to be revisited.
He made the call as the expiration date of thousands of doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine draws nearer and the daily vaccination rates are declining.
Professor Figueroa says more private practitioners need to be involved in the national vaccination programme.
He says the public education campaign must be more systematic and strategic.
The Public Health Professor while speaking on Nationwide This Morning with Danielle Archer and Tauna Thomas says vaccine mixing should not be the main focus at this point.
Professor Figueroa notes that the large percentage of the population still without one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine should be prioritized.
He says, however, that if it is clear that additional doses of the Pfizer vaccines may not be forthcoming over the next couple of months, then vaccine mixing can be considered.
