The Jamaica Fire Brigade says it has brought the fire on the Mandela Highway under control.
The brigade says it was summoned to the fire shortly after 3 this afternoon.
The fire — which started in a cane field adjacent to the thoroughfare — brought traffic to a standstill.
Public Relations Officer at the at the Fire Brigade, Senior Deputy Superintendent, Emilio Ebanks, says traffic is now flowing smoothly.
Local Government Minister, Desmond McKenzie was caught in the traffic on the highway this afternoon.
He says conversations with the Jamaica Fire Brigade suggest the fire started from unsanctioned activities in the cane field.
