President of the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association, JMA, Metry Seaga, says he’s concerned about the apparent slowdown in manufacturing.

Statistics from the Planning Institute of Jamaica, PIOJ, show a half-a-percent contraction in the sector for the June quarter this year.

It’s the fourth consecutive quarter that manufacturing has declined.

Data released this week by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica, STATIN, show a 30-percent decline in exports of manufactured goods to CARICOM between January and May this year.
